What is your concept? (Be thorough & specific. Review the links on Blackboard) | A 15-year-old girl in high school who is brave, tenacious, and smart from a rich family who tries to figure out the murderer behind the deaths of her family. Only to figure out the connection between the murderer and her father. The concept is how teenagers go through hard times and commit crimes due to no one being around them. Diana Grisom is a rich girl with social standings while Haden is a teenager isolated and committing crimes due to revenge loneliness and hatred. |
How did you conceive the idea for this concept? | I conceived this concept from watching many films from the past from multiple countries. I watched a film ‘Polaroid’ and a drama called ‘Class of lies’ involving criminal past, students, and dark secrets. |
What do you believe is unique about your concept? | My concept is unique as it actively involves thriller crime scene portrayal and how clues lead the story to unfold in a new manner where it involves the main character revealing the dark truth that lies beneath the two, no matter for good or bad. |
Why do you believe this product will be of interest to your audience? | This project will be of interest to the audience as it can hook the audience and leave them curious for more. Although clues being left behind can be repetitive and make the story boring, each clue will lead to a puzzle in a smaller story that fits into the larger one. The murderer deliberately leaves unknown clues on the victim bodies and the girl investigates behind each clue left behind. |
FEEDBACK RECEIVED FROM PEERS
| One person asked me if it was a mystery film which I haven’t really thought it was till then. One person advised me to portray a scene where it doesn’t actually show the people dying and to reference to Twilight and their death scenes. Furthermore, the suggestion of a deeper relation between the two characters was brought up but was left alone in the end. Also, questions were asked about the plot and clarified. Suggestions of where to film was also mentioned like a scene where the victim is on the road and scenes where it is suspenseful. No other feedback was given. |

During my pitch I received many meaningful feedbacks from my peers. One specific example of the feedback I received was how to portray death scene in my film project. One of my peers suggested I take a look at how death scenes were filmed and acted out in Twilight. It impacted me by suggesting a new way of taking a look at death scene. I think it was an interesting way to not show blood and how the characters die through animation. However, my way of portraying death will be different yet similar.
My film has a sense of purpose and theme in the end. What makes a film meaningful is that it has theme that reflects back on life and virtue, “films as providing insight with regard to general lessons of life value” (Beth 2010). In my film, the underlying theme is that truth always finds you at some point whether you expect it or not. Also, everyone has different situations, but depending on the choice you make effects who you are. Through my film showing a moving theme is what can make my project successful. Furthermore, my genre is of interest in my audience. My genre falls under mystery/thriller, crime and drama. My genre of drama was part of the list where it made up “dramas (44.3%)… were the most frequent descriptors...” (Beth 2010).
My audience is attracted towards young people from ages 15 to 25. According to Motion Pictures (https://www.motionpictures.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/MPA-THEME-2019.pdf), my target audience of youth is the median in frequent moviegoers of 13%. My target audience is fairly decent as it hits the middle of most frequent age group who go to watch movies. My film and genre would be successful in targeting young people as it involves thriller and crime. In 2018 from Statista (https://www.statista.com/statistics/949810/favorite-movie-genres-in-the-us-by-age/), 82% from ages 18-24 loves thriller/mystery and 80% love crime as the more popular genre. This is to say that young people enjoy films that keep them on their edge of their seat just like what the purpose of my film is. Lastly thriller is the top 5 out of 10 genres that makes the most gross. About $20,138,941,800 total gross is made ranking at number five from 1995 to 2020, which is a fair spot in movie industry (The Numbers 2020).
This is to say that my concept for this film is shown to be successful in the film industry. I believe that it is a good concept to capture the general attention of young people to watch the film.

The article talks about how hedonism plays a major part in the film industry. In entertainment phycology a relatively new subject compared to other scientific theories is researching what type of emotional effects makes a film more successful. It is said that euphoria the feeling of pleasure and meaningful experiences is what makes a film touching and memorable for the audience. It goes on to talk about how enjoyment doesn’t exactly mean a movie is meaningful. Through a theme that portrays life in a way to relate is more guaranteed to leave an audience touched. A survey done by 271 participants found themes that they could relate to like romance, comedy and drama where the most impactful and something they would remember and relate to. Through many responses most of the reasons why the film became a success was because they provided a meaningful and pleasurable experience on life, which was summarized in the end.
